Team PHenomenal Hope Bikes Across Country for Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness

The cycling team will be racing to bring awareness of pulmonary hypertension and to raise funds for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.

Mesa daughter inspired by father’s chemo battle to help cancer patients

Months before Julie Hyzdu’s father died, she watched him struggle with a self-worn device that helped distribute his chemotherapy medication.

“It was a nightmare for him,” she said.

Hyzdu responded with a quick remedy that brought relief to her father, an invention that now makes it easier for thousands of cancer patients, diabetics and others to wear external ambulatory infusion pumps to inject their medications.

The 41-year-old east Mesa woman and her longtime friend and business partner, Sandy Smith, are scrambling to keep pace with their rapidly growing enterprise and orders for Hyzdu’s creation, a medical device pouch that can be worn comfortably under clothing.

“We just got done making the first 10,000, and we’re ramping up to make the next 10,000,” Smith said. “We can’t keep up right now, and we’re generating jobs.”
